Discussion for considering candidates for the position of Fire Chief

The meeting was called based on Bud Mellor's announcement of February 25th that he is unable to continue as the active Fire Chief due to medical problems,

To review:

The Board had previously received notice of Bud's resignation at the end of his term - during the regular Board meeting of February 141h.

After the regular Board meeting of the 14th the Board held a special meeting to discuss the process to recruit candidates to fill the position of Fire Chief. It was then decided to post an email to all Walker firefighters and to create a post on the Walker Website. John Sumner and Roger Nusbaum replied immediately with summaries of theft qualifications.

Discussion was had regarding our options:

·          Solicit from outside the area — but we have no funding for a permanent, full time position.

§       We have no written requirements to define a search however there is a small

piece in the bylaws re: the Fire Chiefs duties — but no qualifications nor requirements.

The Board reviewed the current Fire Operations structure as follows:

Fire Chief                         (formerly) Bud Mellor

Deputy Chief                  John Sumner

Assistants                          Jill Maisonneuve and Roger Nusbaum

Firefighters                               All current

Station Boss                             Dan Hauck, Joe Lupa

Text Box: re-During the meeting all Board members took time to read each candidate's summary in whole,

Discussion was had surrounding the need to write the position descriptions.

We must take into consideration that — if a Fire District is formed in the future — the District's position description will prevail.

Now is a good time for the Board to re define the SOPs pertaining to structuring Operations to include Fire Operations and Medical Operations.

The Board decided to write an immediate Post for the Walker web site until further action is taken

·            The Board and Bud wish to convey to the community that Deputy Chief John Sumner will assume the role as acting Fire Chief.

·           The current Fire and Medical operations will continue as currently structured unless or until changed by the Board and the newly assigned Fire Chief.

·           The Board will be conducting interviews with the applicants for Fire Chief. Meeting ended 11:20 am
