Correction to WFPA Proxy Form

The Proxy form contained in the recent newsletter has a typo that restricts the vote for WFPA Board candidates to three.

There are four vacancies this year and Proxies can have up to four votes for Board Candidates.

A corrected form is available on the WFPA Website at:

http://walkerfire.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/WFPA-Proxy-Form-and-Instructions-2014-revised-2.pdf

The correct start time for the Annual Meeting is 9:00 a.m. on May 24, 2014 at the Walker Fire Station 4980 E Walker Rd.

Our First Pancake Breakfast of 2014

In addition to a great crowd, our first pancake Breakfast brought a wet and white surprise.  What a way to start our summer season, snow in April.

We have create a gallery page that includes a few photos taken during our first Pancake Breakfast.  http://walkerfire.org/gallery    You will need to login to the Walkerfire website to view the photos.

Your Secretary Russ Courtney and Jennifer Ritter (both from Chicago by the way) huddled up against the snowy cold.

The welcome moisture highlighting our fire trucks in picturesque beauty.

Thanks to the volunteers making these events possible and thanks to those who braved the snow to put over $650.00 in the kitty between Merchandise Sales and Donations.

Our community rocks.

Walker Community Fire Department Fundraisers

Last years fundraisers included Walker Day, Firefighter Appreciation Day pig roast, pancake breakfasts, dances, merchandise sales and bingo. These all amount to a ton of fun, and paid for about 10% of our annual expenses.

This year’s line-up includes all the same fun activities. Walker Day is scheduled on June 28th and this year we’ve added an Art Fair to the line-up.

Firefighter Appreciation Day/pig roast is on October 4th from 4-6pm.

The Pancake breakfasts are the last Saturday of each month, (April-October, except May and June).

Bingo is held on the last saturday of each month from 4-7 (Except May and June).

Walker merchandise can be purchased at many of these events and the dances should be listed on the Walker website calendar of events at http://walkerfire.org/calendar-of-events/

I hope to see you all at many of these great family outings throughout the year.

Please come to our fundraisers so we can come to your rescue!

Sincerely,

John Ohanesian
Fundraising Chairman

WFPA Annual Meeting

The Walker Fire Protection Association will hold its Annual Meeting Saturday May 24, 2014 at 8:00 a.m.

The meeting will be held at WFPA Fire Station at 4980 E. Walker Road

At this year’s membership meeting, we will have four board seats that are up for election with two current board members asking for your vote for re-election and two community members who have nominated by the Nominating Committee. A newsletter has been mailed with details of these Nominees and information about Proxy voting if you can not attend.

Nominations from the floor are permitted as well so come prepared with your questions and nominations!

In addition, Members will be asked to approve or reject a proposed modification to the By-Laws for the WFPA that among some “housekeeping” items, alters the Membership criteria to include an annual membership fee which can be paid separately or as part of a Member’s annual dues.

In the event you can’t make it to the meeting, see page 12 of the WFPA Newsletter for proxy instructions and the form (or download it from the WFPA Website).

The annual potluck lunch will follow the meeting.

Our always delicious annual potluck will be the feature after the vote. Please bring your appetite and special dish to share and delight.

Please bring food items as follows, based on the first letter of your last name:

Side dishes, A to H,
Main entrée I to R
and
Dessert S to Z.
